Patricia Stahlman Andershock, MA, MFT, is a licensed marriage and family therapist with Hosanna Ministries.  Patricia has been practicing psychotherapy from a Christian perspective for the past several years.  She sees individuals, couples, families, and youth in her private practice.

Patricia specializes in treating individuals with a history of anxiety disorders and depression.  She is particularly skilled in helping individuals with panic disorder to overcome their fears and phobias in order to live life to the fullest again.  From a humanistic perspective, Patricia works with depressed individuals using unconditional positive regard and empathy, combined with effective cognitive behavioral techniques to help individuals develop coping skills for alleviating their symptoms of depression.

In addition, Patricia has extensive experience treating families and couples who are in crisis.  In the past, Patricia worked with the adolescent and family crisis team of San Mateo County Mental Health where she provided intensive short-term therapy to families with adolescents and children who were at risk of being taken out of their homes for severe behavioral issues.  Patricia successfully helped many families to keep their children in their homes while resolving the issues that disrupted their family’s ability to communicate and thrive.

Patricia works to integrate psychology and spirituality in her practice with individuals and families, according to each client’s individual needs.  While using modern therapeutic techniques, Patricia is also available to pray with her clients and/or discuss relevant passages from the Bible as appropriate for each individual.  At the commencement of therapy, Patricia invites each client to articulate their vision for the therapeutic process and to consider whether they would like to have a Christian emphasis in their counseling experience, or not.

Patricia has a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Expressive Arts Therapy.  Expressive Arts Therapy is a form of therapy that utilizes a variety of creative arts modalities including: drama, art, music, creative writing, and dance/movement therapy.  Patricia has used this form of therapy with children, adults, and families to explore and develop their subconscious processes in a way that words cannot describe.  Also, Patricia uses sand play therapy in which tiny figures that can represent thoughts and feelings in one’s life, are placed in the sand and arranged in ways to also work through unconscious processes and bring about healing.

In addition to her private psychotherapy practice, Patricia leads grief support-groups at her Christian church: Journey of Faith, in Manhattan Beach.  Patricia also enjoys singing and playing guitar as she leads contemporary worship with the high school students at her church on Sundays.  She has a special passion for mentoring the young musicians as they seek to integrate their spiritual beliefs with their joy of playing music.

Patricia lives in the South Bay with her husband, Larry, who is a Bible study and discipleship leader at their church.  Patricia and Larry are expecting their first child, a little girl, this August, and they are both very excited and happy for their upcoming addition to the family.
