Ron Boyer, MA, MFTI is a marriage and family therapist intern and an ordained minister with the Association of Vineyard Churches. He has been providing professional counseling since 2001 and provided pastoral counseling for several years prior to becoming a professional therapist. He provides therapy to individuals, couples, families, and groups. Ron also has extensive experience facilitating seminars and conferences. He is a seasoned public speaker, teacher, and leadership trainer. Since 1991, Ron has been involved in a ministry called Living Waters, which is a healing and recovery program for those struggling with sexual and relational brokenness. Through the ministry of Living Waters and the parent organization, Desert Stream Ministries, Ron has worked extensively with the sexually and relationally broken and has facilitated God's grace, mercy and healing for many struggling with these life defining issues. These areas have to do with sexually compulsive behaviors, addiction, self-hatred, childhood trauma and many wounds of the soul that are in need of restoration. Ron offers a unique blending of professional training and experience in the therapeutic process, and personal experience in recovery from sexual and relational brokenness. Ron works with the hypothesis that we are all created in the image of God, the Imago Deo. Transformation and spiritual formation have to do with restoring persons to God’s original intent, or who we really are in Christ. It implies the awesome reality of the personality becoming wholly free to reflect the glory of God to the world. As Isaiah puts it, we are to become, “oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor” (Isaiah 61:3). As barriers and woundedness are cleared out of the way, persons can begin to know God at the heart level and the inner life of the soul is transformed. No longer does one struggle with doing as one ought, but goodness and virtue become free to flow from the center of one’s being. As persons become free of past wounds and generational and cultural sin, they in turn become free to love as Jesus loves. CS Lewis writes about this great reality in this splendid passage: “The Christian hypothesis is that God has come down into the created universe, down to mankind– and come up again, pulling it up with Him. This is the message of Love flowing down to us and taking us up into It. This is the message of the Cross - where the great reversal of the fall began. At the Cross Love and Life were injected into a dying creation and from there we begin to tread Adam’s dance backwards." As a professional counselor, Ron is committed to “setting in” this process of restoration and healing for those he works with. Ron is able to work with a wide variety of persons dealing with a range of issues such as substance and sexual addiction, homosexuality, couples and marriage therapy, self-worth, dependency, depression, singles issues, childhood and teen learning disorders and behavior problems, financial and career counseling, childhood trauma and abuse, and spiritual formation. Ron also enjoys playing his conga drums, hiking the trails, and watching the sun set in the Santa Monica mountains where he lives with his beloved wife and three kitty catties.
